This weeks “track of the week” is Mustang Sally by the Commitments. This track has also been done by Wilson Pickett, who, if I’m right, recorded the original. This is a cracking track to play and follows (so I’m told) a standard “12 bar blues” structure. It’s a great track for getting the crowd singing along and is a favourite among many hundreds of covers bands the world over! In my old covers band we used to finish the night with this number and we all used to play solos. It worked really well and was always a joy for me to play. Some nights were better than others obviously, but when the bass player and I nailed our “trading twos” there was nothing like it! It’s a track with so much potential to mess about with and put your own spin on it. Give it a listen and tomorrow I’ll give you the breakdown.
